Niaouli has a clearing and stimulating action. Its fragrance is characteristic of the Melaleuca family but also exhibits a soft herbaceous back note. Niaouli essential oil was used in the hospital obstetric wards of France because of its antiseptic properties and is still a popular ingredient of toothpaste and mouth sprays today. It has a slightly sweet fresh aroma.
Niaouli essential oil originates from Indonesia and is extracted by steam distillation of the leaves and twigs of the melaleuca quinquenervia.
